Mrs Gordon, Pitcalzean, Nigg. Copy of Dunskaith House, Nigg. The original house is at the far left, but it was significantly enlarged between 1901 and 1906 after its purchase by the Romanes family. The Cromarty Firth was used as a naval base during World War One, and Dunskaith House briefly became a naval hospital, but because of poor water supply to the house it was turned into a naval supplies store. It stood near to the Nigg pier and was almost wholly destroyed by fire in 1960 with only the servants' quarters surviving. *

Mrs Burton Mackenzie of Kilcoy Castle, Ross-shire. The Kilcoy estates passed through the male line of the Mackenzies of Kilcoy until the death in 1883 of Sir Evan Mackenzie, 2nd Baronet, when they were inherited by his eldest daughter, Isabella Jane. She had been born in Australia and had married Colonel John Edward Burton (1835-1901) on 30th March 1869. The castle was restored from a ruinous condition in about 1891.
