  Stewart Carmichael (1867-1950) was born in Dundee, Scotland and was an associate of the Celtic Revivalist and symbolist painters John Duncan (1866-1945) and George Dutch Davidson (1879-1901). Carmichael was a portrait and landscape artist, architect, and decorator. Stewart was educated at Dundee High School and studied art in France and Belgium. He painted many historic subjects, including a great patriotic mural for the Dundee Liberal Club, which featured Wallace and Bruce.
