Originally the site of the Empire Theatre which was demolished in 1971, Caledonia House first appears in the Valuation Rolls of 1973-74. DE Shoes occupied the corner site for many years, next to the rear car park entrance of the Cummings Hotel (which is now the Hush Lounge Bar). The double decker bus is parked outside the building once occupied by Teddy Mountain.*

Image 26487a shows the Timpson store at the same location but with an earlier upper level facade. Further along, Stewart's Bar is now MacCallums. The carved stone face above the heavy door at the left has also disappeared, although others along the facade of the building (The White House Bistro) remain.*
