Mr George Noble and family, sailmaker, Avoch, Black Isle. See contributor comment below for identification. Andrew Noble (b1798) in Broadsea, Fraserburgh married Janet Runcie (b21.09.1799) of Seatown, Cullen. Their son, William Noble (19.07.1821 - 03.04.1896) married Elspet Morrison (b1830) of Turiff, on 19.02.1847 in Aberdeen. They had several children; William (b1849) in Seatown, Ann (b1853) in Fordyce, Banff, Janet (b1856) in Burghead, Duffus, Elspet (b1862) in Burghead, Andrew (b1865) in Burghead, Isabella (b1871) in Burghead, and John George Morrison Noble (b1873) in Burghead, who married Margaret Jack of Avoch. Their great granddaughter is contributor Bev Goodacre of Johannesburg. An obituary notice in the local press dated 19th October 1962 noted: 'At Geddeston, Avoch, Margaret Jack, wife of the late George Noble, sailmaker, Avoch.'

Mrs McLeod, The Smithy, Munlochy, Black Isle. Andrew McLeod was born on 20th August 1880 in Rosskeen and Isabella Macdonald on 17th September 1894 in Poyntzfield. (See image ref: 23236_macdonald). They married on 8th June 1923 in Avoch, but this portrait dates from about 1925. They had three children, Andrew, born 6th April 1924 in Munlochy, Annie Jane who died in infancy of bronchitis and Alexander, known as Alistair, born in 1934 in Lochcarron. McLeod worked on the land in the Black Isle and was later appointed grieve to Sir Reid who had an estate in Lochcarron. He continued working there for many years before eventually returning to Rosemarkie. (His son Andrew enlisted in 1939 and was based in Glasgow where he married in 1945 and settled. The biographical information has been kindly provided by his daughter Irene Thomas).

Mrs P. Paterson. Anne Margaret Mackintosh, born 1870 was a domestic servant when she met and married master baker Peter Paterson in 1897. By 1911 they had adopted a daughter, Dorothy M. Robertson. When her sister died of tuberculosis in 1913 (her brother-in-law had died earlier) she took in their children, James Daniel Mackintosh (1905-1970) and Margaret Elizabeth (Maisie) Mackintosh (1907-1920) see ref: 23126. After his sister died, James Daniel emigrated to the USA in 1923, and Peter, Anne and Dorothy Paterson followed in 1925 with their final destination Michigan, Detroit. Peter Paterson was the brother of famous photographer Andrew Paterson (1877-1948).
